Almanac: 2019

Highlights of 2019 included Summer Nights, outdoor workshops, being part of Mid West NAIDOC, the group exhibition A Pastoralist Family, the creation of a new mural in Coorow, our Kids26 Project and the second Act Belong Commit Harvest Festival.

Message from the Co-Chairs

2019 was another busy and successful year for the North Midlands Project.

We were honoured to continue promoting the Act Belong Commit message through sponsorship from Healthway for a range of arts, cultural and heritage activities.

During the year we expanded with more larger-scale events including Summer Nights @ The Exchange and our third and biggest Heritage Festival. It was great to see our Harvest Festival trial a new format to become a truly regional event with components held simultaneously across Carnamah, Coorow, Mingenew and Morawa.

We took part in The Alternative Archive of exhibitions held across the state with the exhibition A Pastoralist Family exploring the Scottish and Aboriginal members of the Macpherson family. It was an honour for the exhibition to also be part the hugely successful Mid West NAIDOC event at Morawa.

Our thanks to Shiona Herbert and Ignite Your Audience for running the insightful and challenging Kids26 youth program, which encouraged young people to compile suggestions on how to live a good and happy life. The outcome of the project can be viewed on Instagram.

During the year our multipurpose building The Exchange - North Midlands evolved to become a key part of the community and it was great to witness many improvements to the building, made possible with funding from the Australian Government through the Building Better Regions Fund. We were very pleased to make the building freely available to other community groups.

We'd like to thank everyone who helped or participated with our programs during the year. Our mantras of Together We Are Stronger and Get Creative for Health + Happiness have never been truer.
