Act-Belong-Commit Young Artist Academy

Hi there, I'm Richelle!

I’m part of the North Midlands Project team in Carnamah in the Mid West region of Western Australia. Each week I'll be adding a new coding Young Artist Academy activity the whole family can enjoy.

The activities will be for a range of different devices including some that don’t even need a computer or tablet; and for a range of different skill levels.

When an activity has been completed take a photo, draw a picture or take a screenshot and email it to or get your parent to share it in our Act-Belong-Commit Creative @ Home group on Facebook.

To keep the fun going you can also book a free 'Family Zoom' session with me for this activity. Click here to book a session. (Family Zooms are available to pe)ple living in the Mid West region of Western Australia)

If you have a question please email me at

  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil
  • Binary Code Table (provided below)
  • No Tech required

Computers don’t use letters, numbers and words to do things they use combinations of 1 and 0.

This is called Binary Code.

Letters, numbers and other characters have an ASCII code that can be written as different combinations of 1 and 0

Below is a table showing the letters of the alphabet, the ASCII code for each letter and the Binary code that represents the ASCII code. You will notice that there is a different code for each lower case letter and a code for each Capital letter.

Using the table write down your name in Binary Code.

If you want more of a challenge write a sentence about staying home in Binary Code.

My name is 01010010 01101001 01100011 01101000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01100101

Can you decode it??

We want to see your Creation!

Once you have completed the activity take a photo your CODE and post it in our Act-Belong-Commit Creative @ Home group on Facebook or email your photo to

In the comments please write #YoungArtist Aged 10 using the artist's actual age. Please add any comments to your post about what was enjoyable about the Young Artist Academy activity.

Keep the Fun Going with A Free FAMILY ZOOM!

Act-Belong-Commit FAMILY ZOOM

Pull up a chair... welcome to our Act-Belong-Commit Family Zoom! You and your family are invited to choose a time with Richelle to participate in a mini family workshop on USING THE CODE.

For a safe, personal and social experience, each session is designed for one family and our creative. Sessions are free and run for around 20 minutes in a private Zoom room. Extended family members are encouraged to join in from different locations.

Please click here to book a Family Zoom session for this activity.

As our sessions are designed as a safe space for people of all ages to get creative together, we ask that a parent is on the session at all times.

Family Zooms are available to people living in the Mid West region of Western Australia.
