Act-Belong-Commit Young Artist Academy

USING : THE CODE

Hi there, I'm Richelle!

I’m part of the North Midlands Project team in Carnamah in the Mid West region of Western Australia. Each week I'll be adding a new coding Young Artist Academy challenge that the whole family can enjoy.

The activities will be for a range of different devices including some that don’t even need a computer or tablet; and for a range of different skill levels.

When an activity has been completed take a photo, draw a picture or take a screenshot and email it to hello@northmidlands.org.au or get your parent to share it in our Act-Belong-Commit Creative @ Home group on Facebook.

To keep the fun going you can also book a free 'Family Zoom' session with me for this challenge. Click here to book a session. (Family Zooms are available to pe)ple living in the Mid West region of Western Australia)

If you have a question please email me at programs@northmidlands.org.au

Lets get digitaly creative!

In this digital activity I will introduce you to ScratchJr! With ScratchJr, children aged 5 to 7 can program their own interactive stories and games.

In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively.

Materials

iPad or Android Tablet

With parents permission download Scratch Junior to your iPad or Android tablet from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Activity

What is ScratchJr?

ScratchJr is an introductory programming language that enables young children (ages 5-7) to create their own interactive stories and games. Children snap together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing. Children can modify characters in the paint editor, add their own voices and sounds, even insert photos of themselves -- then use the programming blocks to make their characters come to life. See more here.

Let the fun begin...

Enjoy figuring out how the application works then create an animation that uses the Diver sprite.

We want to see your Creation!

Once you have created your animation using Drive sprite take a photo or draw a picture of your animation and post it in our Act-Belong-Commit Creative @ Home group on Facebook or email your photo to hello@northmidlands.org.au

In the comments please write #YoungArtist Aged 10 using the artist's actual age. Please add any comments to your post about what was enjoyable about the Young Artist Academy activity.

Keep the Fun Going with A Free FAMILY ZOOM!

Act-Belong-Commit FAMILY ZOOM

Pull up a chair... welcome to our Act-Belong-Commit Family Zoom! You and your family are invited to choose a time with Richelle to participate in a mini family workshop on ScratchJr.

For a safe, personal and social experience, each session is designed for one family and our creative. Sessions are free and run for around 20 minutes in a private Zoom room. Extended family members are encouraged to join in from different locations.

Please click here to book a Family Zoom session for this activity.

As our sessions are designed as a safe space for people of all ages to get creative together, we ask that a parent is on the session at all times.

Family Zooms are available to people living in the Mid West region of Western Australia.

Questions? Please email programs@northmidlands.org.au
